December ETM Associates Meeting RECAP

Upcoming Events:
  • Still haven't made plans for New Years Eve? Our friends at After the Jump are throwing a rockin' New Years party in support of ETM! They are taking over two floors of the Knitting Factory and promise an evening of "bands, DJs, and mind blowing awesomeness", and proceeds from the festival benefit ETM's music education programs! Contact Jennifer Kellas for more information.
  • WINTER BENEFIT: We are looking to hold a small benefit this winter, most likely in February, for 100-150 people, and want to raise around $2,000-$3,000 (our goal for the year is $20,000). Suggestions for the event include a poker/casino night, karaoke, a repeat of the chocolate and wine tasting, etc. Have a great event idea? Want to be on the Winter Benefit Committee? Email us!
  • Seventh Annual Children's Benefit Gala: This year's Gala Benefit, our largest event of the year, is honoring our founder and Chairman as he "steps up" to Chairman Emeritus. The event is taking place at the Pelham Country Club on May 9th. Benefit Committee duties include securing items for the live and silent auctions, promoting the event to potential ticket buyers and donors, helping to secure corporate and individual sponsorship, and assisting with the event PR campaign. Meetings are usually held once a month after work hours. There will also be numerous volunteer opportunities the night of the benefit. Email Emily if you would like more information, or would like to sign up for the Gala Committee.

Spring Benefit (for more info on the spring benefit, click here ):
Together with our friends at all day buffet we are hosting a larger spring fundraiser. We were inspired by the film "School of Rock" and are setting out to re-create the concept. We are looking for around 5 well-known artists and performers to "coach" 5 groups of ETM students on a song or two that will be performed at the benefit. We are asking artists to practice with the kids once, and then be at the benefit. The event will most likely be on a Friday in April, but we need to secure a venue and artist(s) before we can pick a particular date. This is going to be a complicated event to pull off, and we can use your help! Click Here to see a more detailed event agenda. We have divided the different responsibilities into different committees:
  • Finance Committee: Creating and editing the event budget, "comparison shopping", helping with collecting ticket payments/donations the night of the event. Contact Rainah for more information or to receive a preliminary draft of the budget.
  • Marketing/Communications Committee: working with the graphics designer to create invitations, signage, viral marketing campaign and other event marketing materials, assisting with the event PR campaign and helping to promote the event, working with the Fundraising/Sponsorship Committee to secure Event Sponsors. Contact Committee Leaders for more information.
  • Entertainment/Artist Recruitment: Reaching out to performers and artists to participate in this benefit, either as a "coach" or MC.Please see the artists listed on the event agenda for examples of who we are targeting and Contact Committee Leaders for more information.
  • Fundraising/Sponsorship: Reaching out to potential donors and sponsors for different levels of sponsorship opportunities, working with the Marketing Committee to cultivate and handle companies and individuals. Contact David for more information.
  • Venue: Reaching out to different venues to host this event (we would ideally like to be able to get a venue for free or reduced rate, in exchange for appearance on all promotional materials). Contact Committee Leaders for more information.

Development/Communications Report:
  • Annual Appeal: We have mailed out our annual appeal for giving, and will be sending an email blast next week to our contact lists. We want this to be a record year for individual giving, so when you receive the email, please forward it to anyone you think may be interested in supporting ETM's work!
  • PR/Marketing: If you are interested in working with us on our ongoing PR/Marketing efforts ( web marketing, reaching out to press contacts, advising on marketing materials, helping with sponsorship opportunities), please contact us.

Quotes

  • "I believe in the power of music to help all children do better in school so I get very excited when I hear about a program, like Education Through Music, that involves every student regardless of talent or prior training and has music as part of the core curriculum rather than outside it. That’s the way it should be done."
